(2 Thess 2:3-4)
Do you believe that Jesus is coming back? Some may say
yes, and some no. How do we know we believe the right thing? The answer is in
the Word of God.
The Lord’s glorious return is the believer’s “blessed hope” (Tit 2:13). And the Lord’s coming is near, even “at the doors.” Are you ready for His return?
As we look to His return, we as believers must live godly and righteous lives now (Tit 2:12), in obedience to Him, our Lord and Saviour who has died for our sins (Tit 2:14), to save us for a glorious future.
For the unbeliever, however, what awaits him is everlasting damnation. When the Lord comes, everlasting damnation of unbelievers will be sealed.
Based on 2 Thessalonians 2:3, the two signs of our Lord’s return are as follows:
1) “Falling away”:
This refers to a spiritual falling away when churches preach a false gospel, instead of the true. Today, many have already fallen away, and have become neo-evangelicals, charismatics, liberals, etc. The Roman Catholic Church has countered the Reformation to bring Protestants back to Rome. Westcott and Hort (in the 19th Century) subverted God’s Word when they introduced a corrupt Greek New Testament which paved the way for corrupt modern English versions of the Bible. The B-P Church in Singapore too was “infected,” resulting in the dissolution of the B-P Synod in 1988. Today, more B-P churches have fallen away.
2) “Man of sin be revealed”:
This “man of sin” is a man who impersonates God and demands worship from the people (2 Thess 2:4). He leads at least 1.2 billion people in nearly 200 countries, and is unrivalled in power and wealth.
In these last days, there will be “scoffers” (2 Pet 3:3). They are the unbelieving believers! They scoff at the second coming of Jesus! Remember Revelation 22:12. Jesus said, “…behold, I come quickly….” He has prepared a beautiful place for us. Read Revelation 21 and 22.
