Text: Proverbs 5:15-22
The Bible is the best guide to help us keep away from sexual sins. Sexual problems are spiritual problems. Hence, secular organisations or solutions are never able to effectively address them. The Christian can keep away from sexual sins by being contented with what God has blessed him with.
Prov 5:15-20: Our sexual desires are legitimate. And marriage is the only legitimate way for a man and a woman to satisfy their sexual desires. Man is to look upon his own wife to be always attractive and beautiful. Remember that she is the best that God has blessed a man with. So man is to “drink waters out of thine own cistern” (v 15) and not look elsewhere. A married couple belongs only to each other. They are not to allow a stranger to come in between them. Be satisfied with sex only within marriage. Anything else is prohibited by God.
Prov 5:21: Remember that God is omnipresent. He is there witnessing our sins. Remember also that He is omniscient. He knows all our thoughts and the sinful lusts in our hearts. We can never hide or escape from Him. These facts ought to keep us away from sexual sins.
Prov 5:22-23: The consequences of sin are real. Be willing to suffer the consequences. Even when we have confessed and repented of our sexual sins, we still need to earn back the trust that we have lost. Those who refuse to confess, take heed that the consequence is death! They ignore their sexual sins to their own detriment! Beware! Take note that all paths of sin have U-turns. You can make a U-turn, confess and repent and come back to God. You may feel ashamed to make a U-turn, but God will forgive you when you do, and He will restore the peace to your heart.
When confronted with sexual temptations, we must run away (or flee).
How will we stand before God? We must reflect and examine our own lives. Are we holy as God is holy? We may not be perfect but that does not mean we can live a life of perpetual sin. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit who is in us. Flee from temptations. If we have fallen into sexual sins, repent! And come back to God!
