Romans 12:1-2 is a passage for believers. We are to present our bodies a living sacrifice. Remember that it was God who first made the sacrifice by giving us His Son to die on the cross for us. As such, Paul beseeched us to give our lives back to Him as a living sacrifice.
This living sacrifice includes our whole soul, spirit, mind and body. We are to live as Christians at all times. By our lives we are to show forth the Spirit in us, thus making us different from unbelievers. We are also to serve God with our lives.
A sacrifice is something which we give up and which is important or valuable to us. 1 John 2:15-17 tells us how we can present our bodies a living sacrifice and what we are to give up. It is difficult to be a living sacrifice but it will be worth it in the end. To be a friend to the world is to be an enemy to God. We can please a holy God only by keeping our lives holy. To be holy is to be God-like, hating evil and doing good. Our purpose here is to glorify God.
We are not to conform to the world by renewing our minds. We are citizens of heaven. God’s Word teaches us God’s way. We must have a spiritual appetite for the Word of God. God’s Word is food for our soul. Diligently searching God’s Word is the only way for us to renew our minds.
We ought to pray that we will submit to God’s Word and do what we know is taught in His Word. The world must not be our friend.
