Boy-Girl Relationship – Boundary in Courtship

Scripture Text: Heb 13:4

Homosexuality (now considered an alternative lifestyle and accepted even by some pastors) is an abomination to God (Rom 1:24-28). If you feel you have homosexual tendencies, confess your sin to God and you can change as the Lord enables, once you believe in God and become a new man (1 Cor 5:17). From the beginning, it has always been a single man and a single woman to be joined together in holy matrimony.

For a blessed marriage, the relationship must start with the right foundation. Hebrews 13:4: If the couple is not in a marriage covenant, they are not to be involved in any physical intimacy that will lead to premarital sex. Love is not blind. The Bible teaches the unconditional love in 1 Cor 13:4-7. God expresses such love through His only Begotten Son who died for us. Only Christians can have such unconditional love, through the grace of God.

Biblical principles to help keep the relationship pure:
1)    Seek pre-marital counseling: All in a BGR should seek counseling by the Pastor or any spiritually matured couple.
2)    “Mentor” each other: In a BGR, the man is to take the lead in mentoring and that will prepare him to lead his future family. If the woman is spiritually more matured, she must help him to take the lead eventually. Help each other to discover areas for improvement. “Iron sharpeneth iron” (Prov 27:17a). This will help them to deal with the relationship clearly and grow it with encouragement in the Lord.
3)    Accountability to each other: Being answerable to each other will safeguard crossing the boundary.

These principles will help the couple strengthen their relationship. Be careful not to sin as whoremongers and adulterers who will be judged by God (Heb 13:4b). It is never too late to repent and receive the wonderful forgiveness that our Lord Jesus has promised us.

Our relationship with God must first be established, then our relationship with others will be right. Parents need to teach their children to love God more and more. Fear God and keep His commandments. Follow His divine instructions, not the world’s. Keep your relationship pure and you will have a marriage that is honourable and pleasing to the Lord. Ask God to help you flee from temptation, resist the devil and you will be blessed.
