Be Not Double Minded

Scripture Text: James 1: 5-8

1. In the Epistles of James, the Apostle James was writing to the Christians who were suffering under persecutions. They needed wisdom from God in such difficult time to do the right thing and to know the will of God.

2. Who are we to pray to? The Bible tells us to direct our prayers not to men but to God. Our God is most willing to bless us. He is able and willing to give His blessings to us generously. The Bible says “God upbraideth not” which means He will not despise us in our asking of Him.

3. The Bible tells us that when we ask God in prayer, it shall be given unto us. This is a great assurance to us. We are reminded in the Gospel that Jesus said “ask and you shall receive”. Our God is a prayer answering God.

4. How shall we then ask God? We must ask in faith. We must believe God and that He is faithful and powerful and will answer our prayers. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

5. We must not ask wavering with a double mind. This means we are torn within ourselves with no rest as doubt sets into us and we do not trust God. If we ask wavering with no faith, then we will not receive anything from God.
