Scripture Text: James 2: 1-13
1. A Church can be divided by rich and poor members or those who have and those who have-not. In the true biblical church, there is no divide as all are equal in the sight of God.
2. There is only one criterion for us to be in Heaven – are we clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ? It is not our education or earthly riches or race or age that matters. Hence, the Church of Jesus Christ ought not to be divided over such matters.
3. In James chapter 2, „respect of person” means “receiving people based on their faces” i.e. showing favouritism. We respond to someone based on their externals and show partiality and discrimination this way. This is not a spiritual act as God is fair to everyone.
4. The illustration of favouritism is shown by someone who favours the rich when they come to church and despise the poor. This is not true love and the self-centred motive to please the rich is not acceptable to God. We must love our neighbours as ourselves.
5. The sin of favouritism tarnishes the glory of God. We must cease from it. Let us show mercy to everyone for there is blessing in it.
