Scripture Text: James 1: 12-15
1. The text in James 1:12-15 shows us the process of sin. God’s Word wants us to learn from it so that we will not sin and if we sin, we should repent quickly and come back to God. We should not blame God or others when we sin.
2. The Bible says every man is tempted i.e. no one is spared from the temptation to sin. Though we are tempted in different ways, but the process of sin is the same for everyone.
3. Temptation is not a sin but when we yield to the temptation, we have committed sin. Sin is when our will and desire responds to the lust. When Jesus was tempted, He resisted and rebuked the temptation. However, when Eve was tempted, she responded and reacted to it.
4. The 1st stage of the process of sin is when we go after the temptation and yield to it. The 2nd stage is the most destructive and deceptive when we allow the development of the sin. We feed the sin in our thought life. The Bible used the metaphor of conception to allow the sin to develop.
5. The 3rd stage is called death that when sin has conceived, it brings forth death. For unbelievers, it is eternal death in the condemnation in the Lake of Fire. How they must call on the Lord Jesus to save them. For believers who fall into sin, this death will mean we lose our fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ and our spiritual life is stagnant.
6. To prevent sin from working in us, we must do the followings:
a) Fix our eyes on Jesus Christ
b) Repent of our sins
c) Examine our hearts and recognize our besetting sins
d) Live for Christ and for others
