In Spiritual Darkness

Having No Faith in the Lord Jesus and God’s Word: I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness (John 12:46). Here, the Lord Jesus confirms that whoever believes in Him should not abide in darkness. If all the doors and windows of our house are made of hard wood or timber, when you and I close all these doors and windows that no beams of light can shine through, we are in darkness. Spiritually speaking, the Lord Jesus is the Divine Light and God’s Word is the lamp and the light, so those who reject the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s Word are rejecting the Divine Light; and thus, they are still in spiritual darkness. Then, no matter how smart, clever, intelligent, or scholarly a person is, if he has no faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s Word, he is still in darkness. Sadly, many just blindly follow a religious leader, a great philosopher, a brilliant scientist, or a smart leader who has no faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s Word! How dangerous it is! What about you and me?

Having No Guidance from the Lord and God’s Word: O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me (Ps 43:3). Many are walking in spiritual darkness unawares. They have no guidance from the Lord and His Word. They do not know where they came from, where their walk of life is leading to, and where they will be after death. Without guidance from the Lord and His Word, they are still in spiritual darkness no matter how smart, prosperous, wealthy, famous, or popular they are. What about you and me?

Living in Sins: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Eph 5:11). God is holy and is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. Then, if you and I are still living in sin and enjoying worldly pleasures like fish in water without any spiritual conflict or remorseful conscience in heart, we are still living in darkness. God is true, so if you and I are living a double life or a double standard and speak a double talk in hypocrisy, we are still living in darkness.

Having No Love for God and Others: God is Light and Love (1 John 1:5; 4:8), and He commands human beings, His creature, to love Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love their neighbours as themselves (Luke 10:27), so “He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes” (1 John 2:10-11). Many hate God and Christians and Christianity. Many so-called “Christians” also hate the brethren who have a high view of God’s divinely inspired and preserved Word! They are still in darkness! What about you and me?

Proudly Walking Independently from God and His Word: “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (James 4:6). Satan lifted himself up to be like God, and he was cursed and cast down. He tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit to be “wise” and like “gods,” independent from the living and true God. Sadly, Eve and Adam fell into Satan’s trap and were cursed. Many do not want God to control their hearts and lives. They want to live independently from God. They want to be “gods” themselves to see, hear, watch, read, say and do whatever they like regardless of God and His Word. They are proud, arrogant, rebellious and independent from God, who is Light! They are still in spiritual darkness! What about you and me?
