With our human conscience, we understand that committing crimes like murder, robbery, drug trafficking, kidnapping, fornication, etc. is doing evil things. To prevent evil deeds, people try to use religions, psychology, education, discipline or criminal law but fail to see the source of sin is the sinful heart of human beings. The Scripture not only tells us about “evil doers,” “evil man,” “evil people,” “evil generation,” “evil workers,” “evil deeds,” “evil eye,” “evil speaking,” but also tells about “evil heart” and “evil thoughts” (Jer 3:17; Matt 9:4). The Lord Jesus says, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man” (Mark 7:21-23), and “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen 6:5).
Moreover, the Scripture also tells us that it is an evil thing: to forsake the Lord, even the Creator and worship and serve idols (Jer 2:13; Deut 17:2-7; Judges 2:11); not to believe in the Lord and His Word (Heb 3:12; Luke 5:4-8; Rom 14:23); not to obey God’s Word (1 Sam 15:19, 22-23); to murmur against God (Num 14:27); to cause others to doubt God and His Word (Num 13:31-33; 14:37); to remove the landmark (take over another’s property) (Deut 19:14; 27:17; 1 Kings 21:19-20); to be partial (James 2:4, 9); to be boastful (James 4:16), etc..
Although God’s judgement may be delayed because of His goodness, mercy and love, His judgment is sure and no one can escape it (Rom 2:3), “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb 9:27).
